The Day my Purpose was Born

Kid in a banana outfit

4,748 days ago the world became a bit brighter.

1 day ago this spark of joy continued to light smile among many because why "march to the beat of your own drum" when you can race in your brightest pair of Crocs?

In everything I do, he shines through.

There is no doubt he has faced some challenges. He has been told he’s quirky, weird, a nerd, or small. And he’s among the youngest in his class at school.

All that, his confidence and intelligence has made him look beyond the pains of today with the knowledge he’s got a big future. He’s one of the oldest and most genuine souls I know. And loves his family in a way that is all I could ask for {especially on those days he may test the patience of said family 😜}.

His current goal: work audio visual tech with Disney Cruise Line.🚢

That professional spark is already lit, with him eyeing a job at Kings Island (as soon as he’s old enough) so he can get the minimum years experience by the time he’s in his early 20s.

Other ways I know he’s got this? He would come to my classroom as a preschooler, to help set up and befriend all my amazing colleagues.

✨ He would look over blueprints with me when I was an account manager, and gives me alllll the suggestions as I work with schools to reimagine education.

✨ He happily joined as my co-host for Monday’s with Mommy when I was building my business as an agent with Off to Neverland Travel.

✨ He is the voice of the "fun facts" at the end of every episode of my podcast, One Spark Stories and is learning the editing process.

✨ He was the first person to submit an email for my business website, newsletter, and any other system I have built to work with clients.

✨He is the proud owner of a One Spark Solutions water bottle, keychain, and has my business pages bookmarked on any device, yes, even that school computer.

If anyone has been both an ally and an advocate for following your dreams, it’s him.

And I’m not surprised. He’s heard us talk about the value of knowing your worth and working hard for what you believe in.

When JJ was born, Joe had recently shifted to a career as an electrician and I had completed my first Master's in Education, yet in the thick of a recession, I couldn't get a job. Overqualified (🙄) qualified or no openings (😔).

We ended up on government assistance until at 4 1/2 weeks pregnant I received an offer and my professional career took off. Since then I personally have had no less than two streams of income and have become more confident in drawing a hard line for something I will never sacrifice again; my family.

People often say “you do so much”. For me, it’s all things that align with what I love, while the very people I love can be there as I watch them building their dreams alongside me.

In the spirit of Connecting, Creating, and Celebrating your purpose, today we celebrate the kid behind it all. 💖
